Mobile phone – necessity or addiction?

Mobile phone - necessity or addiction?

Oh! This would be a very typical question in this current generation. I would say it has become an addiction rather than a necessity, especially for young adults and children. Although mobile phones were initially used as a better means of communication, they have started to play an essential role in human life. Certainly, it has given us many dramatic benefits and allowed us to move forward along with technology. This technological development has caused many upgrades of the traditional phones that were used before. Of course, this development could be one of the causes of mobile phone addiction, rather than a necessity.

Mobile phones are one of the major technological tools that are used very often. In the beginning, the machine was available to few people and today 9 out of 10 people own a cell phone including school children. It is accepted that it provides a better method of communication, saves time, helps in managing finances on the go, is cheaper and very convenient. But with those positives that are part necessity, there are a few negatives that make it an addiction. Cell phones should be an essential part of your life, but they should control your life. Until it is kept as an essential part, it is a necessity, once it starts to take over your life, you are in for an addiction problem. Mobile phone addiction can lead to severe distress and can lead to serious physical problems that can cause permanent damage.

Points to remember to get rid of addiction and medical problems

• Limit your cell phone use. Set a specific time when you should check the notifications received. If possible, try to customize notifications.

• Delete unnecessary apps from your phone such as social media apps where they are not of much importance.

• Avoid using the phone while sleeping. Try not to use the mobile phone at least one hour before bed.

• Instead of using a smartphone, it is better to go back to traditional phones which are always the best option.

• Get into the real world and try to be a part of human life. Start your conversation directly instead of texting or calling.

• Using headphone or speaker is better because it can avoid radiation.

• Children should not be allowed to use a mobile phone, and instead involve them in outdoor activities.

Prevention is always better than cure. So try to control mobile phone usage and set some time limit to have a healthy relationship with mobile phones.
